On the other side of the bracket, fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov was in action on Sunday, trying to make the quarterfinals. He defeated David Goffin in four sets, losing the first 6-7 before winning sets two, three and four by scores of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3.
This is the first time ever that a Canadian man has made the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam. Bianca Andreescu was the first Canadian to ever win the US Open after defeating Serena Williams in straight sets last year.
