A winter storm watch has been extended for BC Interior highways.
Environment Canada said last night close to 30 centimetres of snow would accumulate along the Coquihalla, Hwy 1 (Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass) and Hwy 3 (Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass).
It also warned of winds gusting up to 50 kilometres an hour.
The poor weather is expected to continue until Thursday.
“A strong pacific frontal system will begin to push into the BC Interior this evening,” the agency warned.
“Snowfall will intensify overnight and continue throughout Wednesday and into Thursday. In addition, gusty southwest winds will develop Wednesday and persist into Thursday. Snowfall amounts will vary along the routes due to elevation.”
Environment Canada also warned of reduced visibility along roads.
“Avoid travel if possible,” it warned on Monday night.
