Winter is right around the corner and it’s no secret that skiers and snowboarders are aching to get out on the hill.
AccuWeather has released its winter forecast for all of Canada, which calls for a cold winter out east, but a mild one on the west coast.
In the B.C. Interior, snow is expected to come early this year, but it won’t necessarily be a common theme throughout the winter.
After some expected early dumps of snow, which could lead to a great start to the ski season, the milder and drier winter season is expected for most of B.C.
That means a great start to the ski season could turn into an early end and a lack of spring season for B.C. mountain resorts.
“The primary storm track off the Pacific will be directed into northwestern British Columbia and the Yukon Territory with above-normal snowfall,” said Brett Anderson, AccuWeather’s senior meteorologist.
“A majority of the snowfall in the western mountains and ski areas will come early in the season before drier weather takes hold.”
While this all sounds fine and dandy, it’s important to remember that long-term forecasts are just that, long-term forecasts, and they should be taken with a grain of salt.
However, if AccuWeather’s predictions come to fruition, the B.C. Interior should be seeing snow at lower elevations quite soon!
