(UPDATE: Sept. 9 @ 1 pm) - Another severe thunderstorm watch has been issued by Environment Canada.
It covers the exact same seven regions as Monday's weather alert did.
(Original story: Sept. 8 @ 11:20 am) - Stormy weather could be on the way this afternoon and evening.
Environment Canada (EC) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Thompson-Okanagan and several surrounding regions.
The alert includes: Boundary, Central Okanagan, Fraser Canyon, Nicola, North Okanagan, South Okanagan and South Thompson.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain,” the alert reads.
EC warns that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year, and people should go indoors if they hear thunder.
“Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility,” the alert adds.
Although wildfire smoke has dissipated significantly over the past 24 hours, a special air quality statement also remains in place for essentially the entire BC Interior.
