Environment Canada (EC) has issued a heat warning for a large section of the Southern Interior.
From Tuesday to Thursday temperatures are expected to reach 35-37ºC across the Interior with overnight lows reaching the 18ºC mark.
Areas impacted by the warning include the Okanagan Valley, Fraser Canyon, South Thompson, Boundary, and West Kootenay.
“A building ridge of high pressure will usher in warmer temperatures from Tuesday to Thursday this week,” EC said.
“Each day may be slightly warmer than the previous day. The coolest temperatures are expected near sunrise.”
Vulnerable populations, including seniors, people with pre-existing health conditions and people with limited mobility, will be at a greater risk when temperatures begin to rise, EC said.
All Southern Interior residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable family, friends and neighbours.
All residents, especially those who work outdoors, are reminded to keep an eye out for heat illness, which can include feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst and headaches.
People who work outdoors are encouraged to take regular breaks in cool and shaded areas.
