Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton all break heat records, including 1 going back over 100 years

Several more temperature records have been broken in the BC Interior.

On Saturday, according to Environment Canada, the following new heat records for Sept. 20 were set:

  • Kamloops: New record of 30.3ºC; old record of 30ºC set in 1910

  • Kelowna: New record of 29.8ºC; old record of 29.1ºC set in 2012

  • Penticton: New record of 29.3ºC; old record of 28.9ºC set in 1938

  • Summerland: New record of 30.2ºC; old record of 28.9ºC set in 1938

  • Vernon: New record of 30.8ºC; old record of 28.9ºC set in 1910

But fear not: The Weather Network’s long-range fall forecast reckons the heat will “fade as we progress through September,” bringing temperatures down to “near seasonal” in October and November.

Today, of course, marks the official first day of fall.
