More temperature records broken in BC’s Southern Interior on Tuesday

It was another hot day across the southern part of British Columbia on Tuesday.

That was especially true in the Kootenays, where five daily temperature records were broken in the region.

While all of the previous marks were set in 2015, temperature records in some of these areas have been kept for around 100 years or more.

That includes in Cranbrook, where Tuesday was the hottest June 10 by more than three degrees since records started being kept all the way back in 1901.

There could be a few more marks broken in BC today, but the temperatures will start to cool down Thursday as we head into the weekend.

Here’s the full list of new records that were set on Tuesday:

  • Castlegar (34.8°C) - old record of 32.9°C set in 2015, records kept since 1916
  • Cranbrook (33.6°C) - old record of 30.2°C set in 2015, records kept since 1901
  • Nelson (34.8°C) - old record of 32.9°C set in 2015, records kept since 1904
  • Sparwood (30.2°C) - old record of 27.3°C set in 2015, records kept since 1969
  • Trail (35.6°C) - old record of 33.6°C set in 2015, records kept since 1928
