Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
Originally from Hamilton Ontario. I lived in North Vancouver for about 2 years before making the move to Kelowna. I have been here for about 2 months now, and I am loving it!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Honestly, my mom, dad, and brother. Since I moved across the country, I cherish every moment I get to spend with them.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
I’m still very new to Kelowna, but I am really liking Okanagan Lifestyle! Super comfy and adorable apparel.

Describe yourself in one word.
Driven.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
New Zealand. I just have a very strong desire to experience the beauty of the country and the adventurous activities it has to offer!

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Biking, skiing. weightlifting, I can’t say just one!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Walking out of the bathroom with toilet paper stuck to my high heel at my friend’s wedding. Yes, those things actually happen to real people.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Packing my bags and moving across the country to BC on my own. I have dreamed about this since 9th grade. To finally be able to do it and make it a reality, sort of made me realize I can really do anything I set my mind to.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Every year since I can remember, my family would go out the first weekend of December and cut down our Christmas tree. I seriously love Christmas (ask anyone who knows me), and that morning was just always so fun. We’d bring hot chocolate, and would always find a “Charlie Brown Christmas Tree” before we picked the one we wanted to bring home to decorate.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
As I am still settling into my new life here in Kelowna and learning about the opportunities it has, I am doing my best to give back any way I can. I do love animals though, and plan on getting involved with the SPCA!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
People need to be kinder to one another. We need more love and laughter in the world.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Any mountaintop with a view.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
Affordable rent would be nice! It is unfortunate that it is such a struggle to find reasonable, affordable living in such a beautiful place.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
What drew me to Kelowna was the lifestyle. The ability to enjoy work, but have the accessibility of all the activities and adventures the city has to offer right at your doorstep!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Take a backpacking trip to New Zealand, Europe or Southeast Asia.
Go Heli-skiing.
Go whale watching.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I’ve been playing the piano since I was 6 years old, competed in recitals and everything. And I can crush a watermelon with my thighs.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Instagram @drchriscol
Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/drchriscol)

What is the name of your business/organization?
I am a chiropractor at Valeo Health Clinic.

Why did you get into/start this business?
My interest in sports and the human body when I was young lead me to Kinesiology. Then having a great personal experience with chiropractic, I knew this was the way I wanted to help others.

What is the goal of your business?
To help and courage people to realize what their bodies are truly capable of. Get them to feel healthy, strong, and empowered.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Being too hard on myself, and second guessing myself.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I don’t think I would change much. But I would tell my younger self to relax a bit more, enjoy life, say yes to more things, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! Oh, and listen to your dad and take some business courses!!

What do you always find yourself saying?
This is pretty freaking awesome.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Don’t be afraid to do something you have always wanted to do. You are a lot stronger than you think you are.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Ellen Degeneres.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Small businesses add a strong sense of community. In a city like Kelowna, I feel that is what makes it so great!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Graduating with my Doctorate in Chiropractic and moving across the country.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Guy Greavette, and the awesome teammates/members at Vikings Weightlifting club. This club has been my second home/family since I moved here.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Vikings Weightlifting Club.

Some general comments I would like to share are:
Getting to live in one of the most beautiful places, probably on earth, is truly amazing. I am so lucky and happy I get to call this place home.
