1. Student claims he was defusing the situation after staredown with Native American elder

After a viral video showing Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann standing face-to-face with Native American elder Nathan Phillips during a protest in Washington sparked backlash, Sandmann has released a statement. In the statement, he says he stood motionless while saying a "silent prayer" hoping to defuse the situation after another group of protesters had taunted the group of teenagers.

2. 6.7 magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of Chile

The strong earthquake struck close to the coast of Coquimbo in Chile at around 10:32 p.m. local time, causing thousands of homes to lose power. Photos and videos shared online from affected areas show shaking buildings and shattered belongings.

3. Patriots, Rams move on to Super Bowl LIII

Following two great games that both featured overtime on Sunday, the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams are off to Super Bowl LIII.

4. Man mauled to death by lions after scaling zoo fence in India

A man believed to be in his mid-20s has died after he was attacked by lions at the Mohendra Chaudhary Zoological Park in Zirakpur. The unidentified man climbed into the lion enclosure.

5. Sky-gazers in parts of the world treated to a 'Super Blood Wolf Moon'

The total lunar eclipse was the last of its kind until May 2021. The event was visible to people with clear skies in the US, South America, Canada, Europe and in parts of Asia and Africa.
