A new long-term care home has been announced for Kamloops.
BC’s Minister of Health Adrian Dix announced on Friday that 100 publicly funded beds will be opening next month at AgeCare Sun Rivers, located at 580 Shuswap Road East.
The four-storey building will have indoor and outdoor spaces, including single-bed room, family-style dining rooms, a casual bistro, an atrium for larger gathering, recreational and multi-purpose spaces, a courtyard and a hair salon.

“These beds are part of the largest one-time increase in long-term care beds in the Interior in more than 16 years and will help seniors create a home away from home while still being close to family and loved ones,” said Dix in a media release.
The new long-term care centre will cater to people in the Sun Rivers development and is set to open on Oct. 21, 2024.
According to the province, the building will have state-of-the-art facilities to serve people with physical challenges and health issues.
The land the care home is on is being leased from the Sun Rivers Resort Community, which holds a leasehold title for the parcel from Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc.
Additionally, AgeCare, a Calgary-based organization, holds a service operating agreement with Interior Health for the care home.
“This new long-term care home in Kamloops will provide quality and dignified care services so more seniors can age close to their loved ones in the community they call home,” said Harwinder Sandhu, Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors’ Services and Long-Term Care.
According to the province, these 100 new beds are part of a plan to create 495 new beds in the Interior Health Region.
Other beds are planned for Kelowna, Nelson, Penticton and Vernon, which is where 90 beds just opened in February.
