The Stanley Cup will be coming to Kamloops this summer.
The Carolina Hurricanes capped off a dominant playoff run with a 3-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in game six tonight to claim the franchise’s second Stanley Cup.

Of course, the Canes had thousands of extra fans in Kamloops this playoff run thanks to local product and Blazers legend Logan Stankoven. He's the only British Columbian on the roster.
Stankoven was no passenger during Carolina’s impressive run either, as the 23-year-old potted 11 goals and added five helpers in 19 playoff games.
He was a legitimate contender for the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the playoff MVP, but it ultimately went to Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal.

It’s been a long time coming for Carolina as a perennial contender in the NHL over the past eight seasons.
Since Rod Brind’Amour took over as head coach in 2018, the Canes have comfortably made the playoffs as a top team in the Eastern Conference every season.
However, that resulted in a first-round disappointment, three second-round exits and three devastating losses in the Eastern Conference final.

But this year was finally different, as Carolina cruised through the first two rounds with sweeps of Ottawa and Philadelphia before knocking off Montreal in five games.
It was the first time the Hurricanes made the Stanley Cup Final since 2006, and now it’s their first Cup victory since that very same run 20 years ago.
The captain of that 2006 team, of course, was their current head coach Rod Brind’Amour.
