Kamloops council has adopted zoning amendment to rezone the site of the Tournament Inn.
Earlier this week, the mixed-use development was moved forward, which will see the site rezoned to the C1 – General Commercial zone.
The proposal is for a new 80-unit, six-storey hotel and a 60-unit, six-storey residential building.
A small commercial building is also included in the proposal, which will now move to the development permit stage.
Kamloops council gave initial consideration to the project in April.
“It is noted that when the application is made for a development permit, a variance application will also be needed to permit an increase to the maximum building height in the C1 zone from four storeys to six storeys as shown in the conceptual design,” the staff report said.
Additionally, a covenant will be required for the project because the site is located within the South Thompson River flood plain.
Next steps will see the development permit application reviewed by city councillors.
