Remains confirmed to be Kamloops man who went missing 4 years ago

The Kamloops RCMP say the remains found near Mission Flats late last month have been confirmed to be human.

On Feb. 25, the RCMP were called to an area near the landfill where skeletal remains had been found.

The BC Coroners Service was called in to identify the remains.

On Tuesday, the RCMP said the remains were confirmed to belong to a 41-year-old man who went missing in early 2020.

In late May 2020, the RCMP issued a plea for information about a missing Indigenous man who was last seen in the Kamloops area on Feb. 19, 2020.

Although the Kamloops RCMP did not name the man on Tuesday, the news release issued four years ago named Jason Redhead.

Mounties say no criminality is suspected in his death or disappearance.

“We hope that his discovery brings some small amount of closure to those who have looked for him,” says Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for the detachment.

The family has been notified and the RCMP says it offers its condolences to Redhead’s family and friends.
