24-unit apartment building near KGH set for public hearing

A multi-family apartment building proposed for Speer Street is heading to a public hearing.

On Monday, Kelowna city council gave first reading to a rezoning application for the four and a half story, 24-unit project near Kelowna General Hospital.

If approved, the project would replace two existing single-family homes that currently sit on the mid-block site.

The 24-unit building would be supported by underground parking and include two ground oriented live-work units into the building design.

According to the report, the goal of the live-work units is to provide the option for health-related uses such as medical offices, counseling and rehabilitation services, and other health services.

During Monday's council meeting, Luke Stack said councillors wouldn’t be receptive to height and parking variances near the hospital, but the project had done a good job working within the zoning.

The project will now be considered at a public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 6 beginning at 6 pm.
