While it’s common for people in the Okanagan to hit Big White Ski Resort for a weekend of shredding the gnar, many made their way up Saturday night for the biggest party the mountain has ever seen.
Altitunes, Kelowna’s newest music festival and the highest festival in Canada, made its debut this weekend; and it went off without a hitch.
Thick as Thieves Entertainment has been patiently waiting to bring back the event as COVID-19 hindered the original dates in April 2020, but organizers Mitch Carefoot and Kurt Jory were ecstatic with how it all came together.
“It took two days to set up, but as an example when you look at the tents around we had to haul 53,000 plus pounds of cement blocks up here. Then you have to get semis up and all sorts of moving trucks up, and it’s snowing and it’s icy, and then melting and freezing,” explained Carefoot.
“So although it took two days, it was a couple of months and now two years of planning to get to this point.”
Partygoers dressed in their best vibrant 80’s themed attire to attend the festival headlined by Arkells, Lights, DaysorMay, Teon Gibbs and DJ Invizible.
Although a wee bit chilly, attendees were excited to enjoy the return of live music and dance the night away under a fantastic display of fireworks.
Now that the excitement has concluded, people in the Okanagan can look forward to the next big festival as Denim on the Diamond has announced its return.
The first look at the 2022 lineup came this morning with Matt Maeson, The Reklaws, Delaney Jane, JJ Wilde and Wilderado all to take the stage over a two-day period in September.
