Edmonton woman and her dog killed northern BC crash

A woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash in the northeastern corner of British Columbia last week.

Tragically, her dog was killed in the crash as well.

Around 6:25 am on Thursday, June 11, the Northern Rockies RCMP received an abandoned 911 call reporting a collision on the Alaska Highway (Hwy 97) just south of Klua Lakes.

Additional information through a phone crash detection report provided emergency responders with a location, and they arrived on scene to find an overturned Kenworth flat-deck truck.

The driver, identified as a 52-year-old Edmonton woman, and her dog were both ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, evidence at the scene suggested that an overcorrection resulted in the vehicle rolling over, but causal factors have not yet been determined.

“The family of the driver has been notified and our thoughts are with them as they cope with the loss of their loved one,” noted S/Sgt. Kris Clark.

Any potential witnesses of the crash, or those with relevant dash cam footage from the area Thursday morning, is asked to contact the Northern Rockies RCMP at 250-774-2700.
