The May long weekend saw 58 sailboats from Western Canada enter into the 39th Annual Springtime Regatta hosted by the Central Okanagan Sailing Association (COSA).
COSA’s regatta, which is the largest dinghy event in the BC Interior, had the nearly 60 boats compete in nine different fleets — all of which were satisfied with the consistent winds contributing to a weekend of fast-paced racing.
COSA’s Ava Halperin won the Laser 4.7 fleet with Rory Wiebe and Lauren Gray — also COSA members — in trail.
Tyler Rubadeau, racing in the Optimist Blue Division as a COSA member, earned first overall in the Optimist Fleet, which includes both the Red and Blue divisions. The Blue Division of the fleet had COSA’s Max Ramsey and Kyle Wright place second and third, respectively.
Kai Ramsey earned first place for the White Division of the optimist fleet, which bears the youngest sailors.
Alizon Littleton earned COSA a second-place victory in the large Laser Radial Fleet.
Andrew Parker and Brenda Bouchette took home first place in the X-Class fleet in their Laser Vago XD.
It was an all-around strong performance for the COSA members and local sailors, said Devin Rubadeau, Regatta Organizer and Head Coach.
“13 podium spots were secured by COSA sailors, which bodes well for the coming race season,” said Devin.
“I was particularly impressed by Ava Halperin in the Laser 4.7 fleet, Alizon Littleton in the Radial fleet, and Tyler Rubadeau in the Optimist fleet, who preserved against significant competition and challenging weather conditions to finish with excellent results.”
