Brianne Mapson is a 19 year old born and raised in Kelowna, BC. She has a passion for exploring and adventures, and loves capturing her favourite moments in life through photography. She is a third year student at UBCO, as well as a dancer and dance teacher. Brianne has always loved exploring her creative abilities, and in the past year, has discovered a love and passion for photography.
Why do you use Instagram?
Instagram is a way for my to showcase my creative side, as well as use it as a gallery for my photography. It’s a source of inspiration as well as a great way to connect with people and other photographers from all over the world. I love exploring, getting outdoors and finding a creative perspective wherever I venture. I hope to inspire and motivate people to get outside and explore their own backyard, because the Okanagan has so much beauty to offer.
What will people see on your feed?
Lots of adventures! I love hiking and capturing the beauty of the world around me through my perspective. You’ll see lots of Kelowna and BC as I love showing off the beautiful place I call home. You may see the occasional dance video as my other passion in life is dance, however, I usually post those primarily on my dance account, @bri_maps.
Does your page have a specific style?
I love blue, teal, and green faded tones in my photos, but can’t resist a good sunrise or sunset every now and then for a splash of colour. I’m still playing around and discovering my style and I find that so exciting! Trying new things is part of the learning and growing process. I love shooting portraits of people and am fortunate enough to have beautiful friends in my life that let me take photos of them. I also enjoy shooting landscape, and the adventures I go on. Usually when I photograph landscape, I like to have a subject in my shot to show perspective.
Favourite Instagrammers to follow?
@samuelelkins and @andrewtkearns are some of my biggest inspirations as photographers. Their lifestyles are both so full of adventure and their photography is absolutely stunning and definitely my favourite style @hellobc @wonderlustcollective and @okanaganexplorers are also some of my favourite accounts to follow! Hello BC posts great photos as well as cool facts and information about our awesome province. Wonderlust Collective posts some very cool adventure outdoor photography which I find very inspiring.
Why do you follow KelownaNow?
KelownaNow is awesome at keeping followers up to date about everything happening in the community. They also repost some great pictures people take around Okanagan!
How do you decide on your location for shoots?
A lot of the places I explore are usually places I find through Instagram. It’s a great source to find new locations shoot.
Biggest Instagram moment?
Last week I actually had a cool Instagram moment. One of my biggest inspirations, Sam Elkins, liked one of my portraits I posted that I was very proud of! It may not seem that big, but to me it was pretty exciting!
