VIDEO: Kangaroo Creek ready to hop into action

It's more than two months later than a typical season, but this Sunday the gates re-open at Kangaroo Creek.

The new Ellison location comes with a sprawling 12 acres of space to give visitors space to maintain physical distances.

Owner Greg Whightman said the most important thing people need to bring along if they come, is their common sense.

The farm has added hand sanitizing stations, and visitors will be asked to keep to their own group when visiting.

Eventually, Whightman believes they may have to limit the number of people entering the farm, but he doesn't expect that to be an issue for the first few weeks.

"If things get to the point where we are overrun we may have to regulate access and numbers in fields and pastures," he said.

"We will follow all the necessary protocols," added Whightman. "We've got 12 acres, we're outside.

We're going to expect people to follow all of the conventions that are in place in society as it is right now and enjoy the farm."

He said, if people need to be reminded to follow the protocols, there will be plenty of staff around to do that.

"We will have upwards of 20 staff on-site," Wightman explained, "to ensure hopefully no problems."

There are hand sanitizing stations at every pen within the farm, and masks will be made available to those who want them.

There will also be a few other noticeable changes. The farm usually allows people to hold the birds, sugar gliders and reptiles, but this year they will be on display only.

After eight years in Lake Country, the owners of the Kangaroo Creek Farm were looking forward to the opening of their new location in Ellison, and then along came the coronavirus.

But the owners have made use of the last few months to make improvements at the site, so they can't wait for Sunday's opening.

The farm will be open from 10 am to 3 pm daily.
