“We’re absolutely thrilled to announce we’re bringing this iconic event to British Columbia,” said Randy Ambrosie, commissioner of the Canadian Football League.
“The Lions’ bid was very strong. And it was buoyed by the tremendous excitement the team is generating across the province and the country.”
The 2024 Grey Cup will be the 17th time that Vancouver has played host to the CFL’s marquee game and the first time since 2014.
The decade between hosting opportunities is the longest gap Vancouver has had since the Lions entered the league in 1954.
“We know we’ll have some very tough acts to follow, with Saskatchewan hosting this year’s Grey Cup in a few weeks, and Hamilton hosting in 2023,” noted Lions owner Amar Doman.
“But we’re determined to deliver the greatest Grey Cup festival and, working with the CFL, the greatest game day in the history of the CFL, come 2024.”
In the meantime, the club’s focus lies solely on Sunday’s Western Semi-Final against the Calgary Stampeders, which will kick off at 1:30 pm.
The winner will advance to the Western Final against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with a chance to punch their ticket to the 2022 Grey Cup, which is being hosted by Regina.
