Weather: May 2019 was very dry

For the third month in a row, we’ve had less than 50% of our average seasonal monthly precipitation amount. Last month, we only saw 17mm of precipitation compared to the May average of 40.2 mm.

In March, Kelowna received only 10.0mm of precipitation compared to the seasonal average of 21.6mm for that month, and in April 2019, we only received 14.4mm and the April average is 29.1mm.

These numbers continue to suggest a very dry spring season to date, especially since May is usually the second wettest month of the year behind June.

Our temperatures last month were also above seasonal. For May 2019, the average daytime high was 23.3C and the average overnight low was 9.2C, compared to seasonal maximum and minimum temperatures of 20.2C and 5.4C. These seasonal temperatures are based on data between the years of 1981 to 2010.

For the first few days of June 2019, expect sunshine and warm temperatures.
