High streamflow advisory issued for the Thompson River

Residents of the North Thompson will need to be cautious if they hanging out by the river.

According to the River Forecast Centre, a high streamflow advisory has been issued for North Thompson tributaries. The advisory is in place for North Thompson River, around Clearwater, and in Barriere.

In addition to the new warning, the RFC is maintaining an advisory for the Cache Creek and Bonapart River, the Upper Nicola River, the North Okanagan including tributaries around Vernon, and the Salmon River near Salmon Arm.

"Snowmelt runoff has been contributing to rising flows in most areas over the past week or two," wrote the RFC. "Rainfall occurred over the region in the past 24 hours, with precipitation totals in the 5-15 mm range being observed at Fire Weather Stations across the region. River levels have been responding to snowmelt and rainfall."
