A Kelowna man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been arrested after allegedly stealing a security vehicle in Kamloops.
Mounties said Joseph Alain Parent, 46, faces five charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and possession of stolen property.
He was already wanted for being unlawfully at large.
Police said they were called about a security vehicle crashing into a light standard on Seymour Street West in Kamloops on Tuesday.
The vehicle then reportedly continued driving east down Columbia Street.
“Multiple frontline officers, members of the Kamloops RCMP Targeted Enforcement Unit, Municipal Traffic Unit, and the Police Dog Service Unit responded to the area, both in marked and unmarked vehicles,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn of the Kamloops RCMP.
“Thanks to the continuous updates provided on the vehicle’s location, officers were able to wait until the vehicle was safely stopped in Valleyview Square before moving in to take the suspect into custody.”
Parent, who is also charged with mischief and theft under $5,000, is due to appear in court on Dec. 1.
